Executive Summary

Boston Express Delivery is a unique and expansive food delivery service. Rather than open our own food service establishment, which has limited potential, we propose a venture that involves only delivering food made and provided by others. Certain restaurants and fast food locations do not offer the convenience of a delivery service. Our business aims to fill that portion of the market that has so far been neglected. We intend to pick up customers’ orders from already established businesses and deliver it to them in a timely manner. We would also like to expand the service to delivering items from grocery stores, but at this time, our focus will mainly be on fast food.

While food delivery is not an innovative idea in itself, our plan addresses delivery in a new way. There is no direct competition for a business of this sort because our services include such a wide range of delivery options. We would only have substitute competition in the form of restaurants that already deliver. However, this does not pose a large threat because we won’t be competing for a restaurant’s food with its own delivery service. Not only will we corner a segment of this market, but we are proposing to launch our business at both a time and place where it has high potential.

In today’s society, people are constantly on the go. People already utilize delivery services in all types of industries, so our business would offer one more convenience for a busy schedule. We are also starting the company in a city and college-dense area. Traveling around the city can be hectic and time-consuming, so customers will appreciate the ease of the services we are planning to offer. Furthermore, delivery is extremely popular among college students. Restaurants fight for space to display their menus at the front desks of college dorms. Therefore, we have yet another specific demographic to which we can appeal.

How Boston Express Delivery Works

Placing an order with Boston Express Delivery could not be more convenient. Customers visit our site and choose from a variety of food establishments. We will offer links to online menus for the establishments we will travel to. The customer will place their order through us, and will receive the total cost which includes the price of food and tax from the restaurant, as well as our own delivery charge. The customer then has the option to pay online with a credit card or choose the option to pay with cash, which we will collect at the time of delivery. Our concept for the website is in development, but we expect to receive a high volume of our orders via the internet as opposed to our delivery phone number.

Concerning costs, we intend to charge a $3 delivery fee for all orders totalling under $30 with tax. For orders over $30, we will charge a 10% delivery fee. We implement these charges with the hope that steady business will allow us to offer promotions, discounted rates, coupons, and the like.
